. it is incredible. folks say they could see the clouds from all across los angeles. now to west los angeles. >>reporter: it broke out at midday and the cause is under investigation. you mentioned the evacuation, the area usually has 12,000 people on the holiday weekend to use this for all forts of -- sorts of activists. they have been brought out because they could get in the way. firefighters need every inch of access. more than 4,000 actioners have burned and they are telling us it is just 5 percent containedded and 400 firefighters are battling the blaze. if you come in by 9 plane, the mountains to the right as you come in to lax, an area that is remote but, at the same time, an area used by so many people this time of year. there are a number of helicopters and planes battling this type. it hand a tough fire season so far with a number of major fires in california and every single western state has had multiple large fires. many of the states have exceeded their fire budget for the entire year and there is still two months left to go. also, we are told a small fire has just started up n

it for real. >> reporter: now the shuttle is on its way to los angeles where it will go to l.a.x. and then will be housed at the california science center. there was restricted air space around here we are told there were no flight delays at sfo because of this. john alston, abc7 news. >>> another advantage point that attracted a crowd the golden gate bridge of course that's where terry mcsweeney joins us live. what a morning for you! >> reporter: it really was. it was a great story to cover for every kind of reason standing here at vista point just over the golden gate bridge on the marin side. watching the space shuttle kind of come out of haze fly over alcatraz and come over and split the uprights, if you will, on the golden gate bridge. take a look at the pictures. people were saying wow. they were cheering. everybody, it was almost as if a sergeant said to his platoon, salute. as the shuttle came over alcatraz they pulled up their cameras that was their salute and everybody started taking pictures with the ipads, phones, camera phones the whole thing. it was an emotional
california and is expected to touchdown at los angeles airport in 45, the shuttle and the carrier are putting on a show for the area, swooping over the hollywood hills signs and other landmarks, again it is scheduled to land there and that will mark the final end of the shuttle's mission and the program. endeavour will stay at lax for a few weeks then next month take a 12 mile road trip to the california science center right next to the l.a. coliseum. nearly 400 trees are being cut down along the route to make room for the 78 foot wide shuttle. the museum is promising to replant a thousand trees. >>> we have a few more details now on endeavour's last flight. the shuttle and its 747 carrier took off at 8:15 this morning from edwards airforce base in the mojave desert. the combined weight is 4 75,000 pounds but less than a commercial jet filled with passengers and luggage. the estimated cost of moving the shuttle from florida to california, including today's spectacular flyovers is about 28 million dollars. but the california science center is footing the bill, not taxpayers. >>> send us your p
